Settings is where you manage your own profile, your firm's details and branding, your team, your Value Adds, your integrations, and your subscription. This article walks through every tab in the order it appears.
How do I open Settings?
In the left sidebar, click Firm Settings. This opens the Firm Info tab.
Click your avatar in the top-right corner, then click Profile Settings. This opens the My Profile tab.
The same avatar menu shows Upgrade to Pro while your firm is on the Free plan. It opens the Billing tab. Firms on Pro see Pro Member instead.
On a narrow screen, the tabs become a drop-down list at the top of the page.
The Settings tabs and who can change what
The tabs appear in this order.
Tab | Who sees it | Who can save changes |
My Profile | Everyone | You. It only affects your own account. |
Firm Info | Everyone | Admins |
Team Members | Everyone | Admins |
Value Adds | Everyone | Admins |
Integrations | Everyone | Admins |
Securities | Admins, and only when Redtail is connected | Admins |
Billing | Admins only | Admins |
My Security | Everyone | You. It only affects your own account. |
"Admin" means the Admin role, or any other role with the Admin sub-permission.
Other roles can open Firm Info, Team Members, Value Adds, and Integrations to view them. If a non-admin tries to save a change, the server refuses it with the message "Forbidden: Administrator access required."
For the full list of what each role can do, see Roles, Seats, and Permissions.
My Profile
This tab is titled My Profile Settings. Change a field, then click Save Changes at the top right.
Field | What to know |
First Name and Last Name | Required. If you are an assigned advisor on a household, your name prints on that household's Value Adds in the disclaimer line that starts "Generated for the clients of". |
Email Address | Read-only. You cannot change your sign-in email in Settings. Contact [email protected] if it must change. |
Profile Avatar | Click Upload or drag a file in. The hint reads "PNG or JPG (Square images work best)". The file can be up to 2 MB. SurgeTK resizes it to 200 by 200 pixels. There is no remove button. Upload a new image to replace the old one. Profile photos are served from a public image URL. |
How do I change my password?
If your account has a password, the Change Password form asks for Old Password, New Password, and Confirm New Password. Click Update Password.
A new password must be at least 8 characters long and contain a special character. If the old password is wrong, you see "Current password is incorrect".
Changing your password does not sign out your other sessions.
If your account has no password (for example, you sign in with Google or Microsoft), the section is titled Password and shows Set up password. Click it. SurgeTK emails you a verification code. Enter the code and your new password, then click Set Password. A password is an extra way to sign in. Your Google or Microsoft sign-in keeps working.
Firm Info
This tab is titled Firm Information. Only Admins can change it. For other roles the fields are locked. Click Save Changes at the top right to save.
Field | What to know |
Firm Logo | Click Upload or drag a file in. The hint reads "PNG or JPG (Any orientation)". The file can be up to 5 MB. SurgeTK resizes it to at most 400 by 400 pixels. The logo prints on every Value Add. Firm logos are served from a public image URL. |
Firm Branding Color | A color picker. The default is a dark gray. SurgeTK uses this color on Value Adds and on the stats banner inside the app. |
Firm ID | Read-only. You cannot change it. |
Firm Name | Required. |
Firm Website URL, Address, Phone Number | These three fields print in the footer of every Value Add. |
Custodian(s) Used | A list with check boxes. Tick Other to type a name. |
CRM System(s) Used | A list with check boxes. Tick Other to type a name. |
Is this firm affiliated with a Broker Dealer? and Is this firm an RIA? | Yes or No. |
What prints on Value Adds from Firm Info?
Your firm logo.
Your branding color.
A footer with your address, phone number, and website.
No email address prints on Value Adds. There is no firm email field. Advisor names print inside the disclaimer, not in the footer.
Team Members
Everyone can view the team list. Only Admins see the Add Team Member button and the Edit and Remove actions.
The top of the tab shows two counters: Advisor Seats Remaining: and Non-Advisor Seats Remaining:. Pending invitations count as used seats.
The table has the columns Member, Role, Permissions, Status, and Actions. Status shows "active", "pending", or "Creator".
How do I invite a new team member?
Click Add Team Member. The Invite a New Team Member window opens.
Enter the Email Address.
Choose a Role: Admin, Lead Advisor, Assistant, or Team Member.
Complete the extra fields for that role. See the table below.
Click Invite. SurgeTK emails an invitation. A new user follows the link to sign up with the invited email address. A person who already has a SurgeTK account, but no firm, joins your firm the next time they sign in.
Role | Extra fields in the invite form | Options |
Admin | Also an Advisor? check box | Tick it if this Admin also serves households as an advisor. An Admin with this box ticked uses an advisor seat. |
Lead Advisor | Lead Advisor Permission | Admin, All, Limited, or Self Only |
Assistant | Assistant to which Lead Advisor(s)? and Assistant Permission | Pick one or more Lead Advisors. Permission: Admin or Inherit Advisor's Permissions |
Team Member | Team Member Permission | Admin, View/Edit Households, or View Only: All |
What each option means is explained in Roles, Seats, and Permissions.
Messages you can see when you invite:
Message | Why it appears |
"You have reached the maximum number of advisor seats. Upgrade your plan to invite more advisors." | Every advisor seat is used, including pending invitations. Add seats on the Billing tab, or remove someone first. |
"You have reached the maximum number of non-advisor seats. Upgrade your plan to invite more members." | Every non-advisor seat is used. |
"This email has already been invited to this firm." | A pending invitation already exists. Remove it from the table if you want to send it again. |
"This email has already been invited to or added to a different firm. Please try a new email." | An email address can belong to one firm only. |
Invitations
Invitations never expire.
There is no resend button. To send an invitation again, click Remove on the pending row, confirm, then invite the email again.
One email address can belong to one firm only.
When a person who already had a SurgeTK account joins, open their row with Edit and check the sub-permission and the linked advisors. Set them again if they are not what you chose in the invitation.
How do I change someone's role or permissions?
Click the Edit (pencil) action on the row. The window is titled "Editing Roles & Permissions for" followed by the email address.
You can change the role, the sub-permission, the linked Lead Advisors of an Assistant, and the Also an Advisor? box.
The firm creator must stay an Admin. Otherwise you see "The firm creator must remain an Admin so team management access is preserved."
One Admin must always remain. Otherwise you see "At least one Admin must remain in the firm so team management access is preserved."
Making someone an advisor needs a free advisor seat.
A role change is not forced onto an open session. Ask the person to sign out and sign in again.
How do I remove a team member?
Click the Remove action on the row.
The Confirm Removal window asks "Are you sure you want to remove" followed by the email address. Click Remove.
What removal does:
The person is detached from your firm. Their SurgeTK sign-in still exists, but it belongs to no firm.
They are removed as an advisor from every household. The households stay in your firm.
Links between them and CRM advisor records are removed.
For a pending row, the invitation is deleted instead.
The firm creator cannot be removed. The message is "Cannot remove the firm creator."
Sign-outs are not forced. Ask the person to sign out.
Unlinked advisors
Below the team table are three tables: Unlinked Imported Advisors, Unlinked Zoho Advisors, and Unlinked Redtail Advisors. They list advisor names that came from an import or a CRM sync and are not yet linked to a SurgeTK user. Pick a user in the Link to Lead Advisor column and confirm. Linking updates every household that references that name. The target must be a Lead Advisor. Only Admins can link.
Value Adds
This tab is titled Value Adds with the line "Manage firm-wide Value Add configurations." Only Admins can save. These settings apply to every household in your firm.
Each Value Add is a card with a toggle. On means the Value Add is available on every household in your firm.
Click Show Settings on a card to open its options. The Guardrails button reads Show Setting.
Click Save Changes at the top right to save toggles and settings.
Buckets and Guardrails are on for a new firm. Every other Value Add starts off.
Requires the Pro plan: Beneficiary, Net Worth, Homework, and 1099. On the Free plan, switching one of them on flips the toggle back and opens the prompt "Turn on Value Adds with Pro".
Roth Conversion Letter and One Page Plan are available on every plan.
If a card is missing, access to that Value Add has been restricted for your firm. Contact [email protected].
Value Add | Plan | Default title | Settings under Show Settings |
Buckets | Free | Buckets Strategy | Buckets Title, Buckets Disclaimer, a rate slider with Lower %, Available %, and Upper %, and the check box Show guardrail percentages in the report table. |
Guardrails | Free | Guardrails | Guardrails Title, Guardrails Disclaimer, the same rate slider, and the check box Show guardrail percentages in the report table. |
Beneficiary | Pro | Beneficiary Report | Beneficiary Title, Beneficiary Disclaimer, and Hide the “Missing Beneficiaries” callout. |
Net Worth | Pro | Net Worth Report | Net Worth Title and Net Worth Disclaimer. |
Homework | Pro | Homework Sheet | Homework Title, Homework Disclaimer, Hide historical account data (page 2), and the RMD Calculation settings: Beginning age, Base value, Account types, Always include inherited accounts, Show rows with no RMD amount, Life expectancy table for account owners (IRS Uniform Lifetime Table or Custom table), Reset to the IRS table, and Reset RMD settings to platform defaults. |
1099 | Pro | 1099 Report | Title, Tax Year (Auto (uses April 15 cutoff) or Manual with a Manual Year), Salutation, Intro (top paragraph), Tax Season Reminders (one per line), Closing Remarks, and Disclaimer. |
Roth Conversion Letter | Free | The letter year followed by Tax Strategy Review, for example 2026 Tax Strategy Review | Four groups: Opening (Title, Salutation, Intro paragraph), Tax year recap (Lead-in, Bullets (one per line), Roth conversion sub-bullet), Conversion options (Include in letter, Lead-in, Assumption line, Bullets (one per line)), and Closing (Closing paragraph, Sign-off, Disclaimer). Click a data-point chip to insert a value that fills in per household. |
One Page Plan (under the Prospecting Tools heading) | Free | Financial Plan Executive Summary | One Page Plan Title, One Page Plan Disclaimer, and the Default Plan Template editor with Default Overall Goal, sections, Add Section, and Reset to Defaults. The card notes "Prospecting tools are not included in Surge packets." |
Distribution rates for Buckets and Guardrails
Buckets and Guardrails each have their own rate settings. New firms start at 5.40% Available, 6.48% Upper, and 4.32% Lower. Firms created before April 2026 may still show 6.00% Upper and 4.80% Lower unless someone changed them. Rates work to 2 decimals. See Guardrails Value Add and Buckets Value Add for how the rates are used.
How does the disclaimer print?
Your disclaimer text does not print exactly as typed. It prints in uppercase, between two fixed sentences: "Generated for the clients of" followed by the names of the household's assigned advisors, and "Value Add copyright SurgeTK, All rights reserved." A household with no assigned advisor prints a red "NO ADVISORS ASSIGNED" warning in that line.
Integrations
The Integrations tab has a card for Redtail, Zoho, and Calendly. Each card has an on/off toggle, a Learn more link, and a Connect button. Once connected, the Redtail card shows Sync Filters and Sync, the Zoho card shows Map Fields and Sync, and the Calendly card shows Disconnect. Each card shows "Connected" or "Not connected" and the time of the last successful sync. Only Admins can connect, sync, or disconnect. Syncs are manual. Nothing runs on a schedule.
See Syncing with Redtail, Syncing with Zoho, Sync Filters, and Calendly.
Securities
Admins whose firm has Redtail connected see a Securities tab, titled Security Classifications. The description reads "Map each security your clients hold to a Buckets category. Synced Redtail holdings use this to auto-calculate every account's cash, income, annuities, and growth split." Search by ticker, CUSIP, or name. Filter by All, Unclassified, Cash, Income, Annuities, or Growth. Switch on Include archived households to count accounts held by archived households in the values and account counts.
Billing
Only Admins see the Billing tab. It shows the Free, Pro, and Enterprise plan cards with a Monthly or Annual toggle, a Your Subscription summary (Current Plan, Seats, Billing Frequency, Billing Total, Next Billing Date), the Upgrade / Change Plan and Cancel Subscription buttons, a Payment Method card with Update Payment Method, and a Past Invoices list. Checkout happens inside SurgeTK. SurgeTK never stores card numbers. Read Plans, Billing, and Cancellation for prices, seats, and what happens when a plan ends.
My Security
This tab is titled Security Settings. It affects only your own account.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
The status line reads "2FA is currently enabled on your account." or "2FA is currently disabled on your account."
Click Enable 2FA. The Set up two-factor authentication window shows a QR code. Scan it with an authenticator app on your phone, enter the 6-digit code, then click Confirm.
Click Disable 2FA to switch it off. You must enter a current code from your authenticator app.
Two-factor authentication is required for email-and-password sign-in. After your first use of SurgeTK, a password sign-in without 2FA shows "To protect your account, you need to set up two-factor authentication (2FA)." and asks you to set it up before you continue. If you disable 2FA, your next password sign-in asks you to set it up again.
If you sign in with Google or Microsoft, SurgeTK relies on the identity provider's own multi-factor protection.
There are no backup codes. If you lose your authenticator app, contact [email protected].
Last 10 Sign-In Activities
The table shows your 10 most recent sign-ins with Timestamp, Location (city and region, estimated from your network address), and Device (your browser details). Older entries are not kept.
How long does a sign-in last?
A sign-in session lasts 7 days. Every time you use SurgeTK, the 7 days start again.
There is no button to sign out of every device at once. Sign out on each device from the avatar menu.
